The Soavinandriana Hospital Center
The Soavinandriana Hospital Center is actually the Military Hospital of Antananarivo. It is the first and continuously opened hospital of the country since February 14, 1889, early before the French colonization. Nowadays, it is a 454-bed polyclinic hospital with many specialties (emergency, internal medicine and different specialities) and modern facilities in the capital city of Madagascar. It is under the directl responsibilty of the ministries in charge of national defense and finance.
The hospital is open to any kind of international co-operation which may improve the quality of healthcare and it's delivery. It is the case especially for the dialysis service and orthopaedic surgery service among all.
The hospital receives every year many national medical students from Antananarivo and Mahajanga and dozens of elective students from different countries. Foreign students are free to choose their elective services according to the availability of coordinating doctors.
The personnel, all national citizens are trained locally, or overseas.
The Center is serving civil servant, military and all public patients as well. In 2009, more than 9,000 people were admitted in hospitalization for more than 85,000 days of treatment.
Soavinandriana is an east quarter of Antananarivo, and part of the city, not to be confounded with the city of Soavinandriana, located in the Itasy region, 120 km west of the capital city.
